Defines "connected to" as serving as a director, shareholder, controlling the organization, or sitting on the board of a 501(c) organization.

Applies the restriction to elected officials in Michigan state offices including Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, State Senate, and House of Representatives.

Exempts religious organizations (churches, ecclesiastical corporations, and groups organized for mutual support and worship of a supreme deity) from the prohibition.

Defines "staff member" as an individual directly hired by and reporting to an elected official and employed by that official's office.
