Honors Nelson Saunders, former Michigan House Representative who served the Seventh and Tenth districts (Wayne County and Detroit) from 1982 to 1996.

Served on committees including Education, Insurance, Taxation, Transportation, Economic Development and Energy, Labor, Public Health, and Judiciary and Civil Rights.

Held leadership positions as Minority Vice Chair of the Insurance Committee, Chair of the Housing and Urban Affairs Committee (three terms), Assistant Majority Floor Leader, and co-chair of the Michigan Legislative Black Caucus.

Attended Laurence Institute of Technology and Wayne State University, and was active in community organizations including the Detroit Institute of Arts Founders Society and American Diabetes Association.

Directs copies of the resolution be transmitted to the Saunders family as condolences.
