SB 196 Summary

• Expands the definition of "committee" to include political organizations recognized by the IRS under 26 USC 527 that have an officer, director, board member, or trustee who is a Michigan resident.

• Requires candidate committees to report all donors, contributions, and expenditures of any 527 political organization that the candidate controls or directs, determined by whether any director, officer, or board member of the organization is employed by or serves as an agent to the candidate.

• Adds new reporting requirement (subsection k) for candidate committees to disclose political organization activity in campaign statements filed with the secretary of state.
