SB 293 Summary

• Amends the criminal sentencing guidelines (MCL 777.11d) to remove MCL 168.731(4) regarding false statements in election filings from the list of felonies subject to Chapter XVII sentencing guidelines.

• Removes one election law felony (filing certain false statements) classified as a Class G felony with a 2-year statutory maximum from the sentencing guidelines table.

• Retains all other election law violations in the sentencing guidelines, including crimes related to petition signing fraud, absentee ballot tampering, voter bribery, ballot destruction, and election official misconduct.

• Takes effect only upon enactment of Senate Bill No. 292 of the 101st Legislature, creating a statutory tie-bar between the two bills.
