Senate Bill 499 Summary

• Establishes the "Complex Needs Patient Definitions Act" providing key definitions for individuals with significant physical impairment or functional limitations including spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, and other conditions.

• Defines "complex rehabilitation technology" as individually configured durable medical equipment classified by Medicare as of January 1, 2020, including complex wheelchairs, adaptive seating, standing frames, and gait trainers.

• Establishes requirements for "qualified complex rehabilitation technology suppliers" including Medicare enrollment, accreditation by recognized organizations, employment of certified professionals, and capability to provide service and repair.

• Defines "qualified complex rehabilitation technology professionals" as individuals certified by the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America or the National Registry of Rehabilitation Technology Suppliers, with departmental approval available if unavailable.

• Requires enactment of Senate Bill 500 of the 101st Legislature for this act to take effect.
