MI SB1045

Prohibits local units of government from enacting or enforcing laws, ordinances, policies, or rules that limit peace officers or local officials from communicating or cooperating with federal officials about individuals' immigration status.

Requires local units of government with existing policies violating this act to bring them into compliance within 60 days of the effective date.

Allows residents of affected local units of government to bring civil actions in circuit court or file complaints with the Attorney General to enforce the act, beginning 61 days after the effective date.

Authorizes the Attorney General to receive complaints, investigate violations, and bring enforcement actions in circuit court against violating local units of government.

Requires courts finding a violation to issue an injunction, order repeal or amendment of the violating policy, and award actual damages, costs, and reasonable attorney fees to the prevailing party.
