SB 1117 Summary

• Amends MCL 551.251 to clarify that minors legally married before the bill's effective date are released from parental control
• Entitles married minors to the same rights, benefits, and privileges as adult spouses and subjects them to the same duties, liabilities, and responsibilities as if they were of legal age at the time of marriage
• Eliminates the requirement to appoint a next friend or guardian ad litem in divorce actions involving legally married minors unless the judge requires it
• Allows married minors to prosecute or defend divorce actions with the same effect as if they were of legal age
• Bill becomes effective only upon enactment of Senate Bills 1114, 1115, 1116, and 1118 (tie-barred legislation)
