SB 1118 Summary

• Removes references to "married minors" throughout the Estates and Protected Individuals Code by replacing "unmarried minor" with "minor" and eliminating provisions that allowed married minors to receive direct distributions from estates.

• Modifies the Michigan statutory will form and related sections to update language ("shall" to "must" and "will" for clarity) and adjust provisions regarding distribution to minors who are married.

• Changes guardianship provisions so a limited guardian can no longer consent to a minor ward's marriage; only full guardians retain this authority under chapter X of the probate code.

• Updates section 5215 to eliminate the separate power allowing guardians to consent to marriage, consolidating marriage consent authority with adoption consent under existing probate code restrictions.

• Bill takes effect only if Senate Bill No. 1114 of the 101st Legislature is enacted into law.
