Memorial tribute to John Mowat Jr., former Michigan legislator who served from 1971 to 1982 in both the House of Representatives and Senate representing Hillsdale, Jackson, Lenawee, and Washtenaw counties.

Mowat served 11 years in the legislature, including roles as Elected Assistant Republican Leader (1974-1976) and Republican Caucus Chairman as a Senator (1979).

Prior to his legislative career, Mowat was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II who became a fruit grower and farmer, recognized in 1969 by W.K. Kellogg Foundation as one of Michigan's top farmers.

After leaving office in 1982, Mowat served as Executive Director for the Republican Party in the Michigan House of Representatives for nearly 10 years and volunteered for Habitat for Humanity.

Resolution directs that copies be transmitted to the Mowat family as evidence of lasting esteem for his memory and public service.
