Department of State Police, in collaboration with the school safety and mental health commission, must promulgate rules by July 1, 2026 establishing standardized response terminology for public schools, nonpublic schools, and local law enforcement agencies.

Standardized terminology must include direction on terminology to be used in response to situations occurring in or at school buildings operated by public or nonpublic schools.

Rules must establish a color-coding system to indicate when the standardized terminology should be in use at public and nonpublic schools.

"School building" definition includes buildings used to provide instruction for pupils, additions to existing buildings, and recreational or athletic structures or fields intended for pupil use.

Effective date: April 2, 2025.
