• Establishes a medication aide training and permit program administered by the Michigan Department of Health, requiring registration for medication aide practice and permits for trainers and training programs.

• Medication aide applicants must hold current nurse aide registration, have 2,000+ hours of nursing home or skilled nursing facility work experience in the preceding 2 years, and successfully complete approved training and competency examination.

• Sets biennial registration and permit fees: medication aides $160.00, medication aide trainers $200.00, medication aide training programs $500.00 per site, plus $175.00 per competency examination.

• Increases nurse aide and trainer permit fees: nurse aides from $40.00 to maintain current level, nurse aide trainers from $60.00 to maintain current level, and adjusts nursing home/skilled nursing facility training program fees to $100.00 per site.

• Creates nurse aide and medication aide registration fund within state treasury to receive and invest collected fees for program implementation; takes effect March 7, 2024, contingent on enactment of HB 4923.
