Health insurers in Michigan must provide coverage for hormonal contraception patches, self-administered hormonal contraceptives, and vaginal ring hormonal contraceptives prescribed and dispensed by pharmacists at network pharmacies.

Coverage requirement applies to health insurance policies that provide prescription drug coverage and must be consistent with the coverage terms of other prescription drugs under the policy.

Insurers must also provide coverage for pharmacist consultation related to hormonal contraceptive prescriptions.

Bill applies to health insurance policies delivered, executed, issued, amended, adjusted, or renewed after December 31, 2025.

Legislation becomes effective April 2, 2025, but only if House Bill No. 5436 of the 102nd Legislature is enacted into law.
