Requires public and nonpublic schools operating grades K-12 to develop and implement cardiac emergency response plans beginning with the 2025-2026 school year.

Cardiac emergency response plans must include establishment of a response team, placement of accessible automated external defibrillators (AEDs) throughout campus with signage, and training of school personnel in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, first aid, and AED use based on American Heart Association guidelines.

Plans must be implemented at school-sponsored athletic events if the school has an athletic department and must include annual exercise simulations and integration with local emergency response systems.

School personnel performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation or using an AED as part of the plan are protected from civil liability except in cases of gross negligence or willful or wanton misconduct.

Legislature must annually appropriate sufficient funds to the department of education to administer this section, and schools are not required to comply unless adequate funding is appropriated.
