Permits courts to order a mental health screening assessment for any person who was in possession of a firearm when arrested for a misdemeanor offense and is admitted to bail before conviction.

Updates bail bond language for defendants admitted to bail after conviction to require they prosecute their appeal, appear as directed, not depart the state without leave, and surrender immediately if judgment is affirmed or case is remanded.

Replaces archaic pronouns and verb forms ("he will," "shall") with contemporary gender-neutral language ("the person shall agree," "must").

Takes effect only if Senate Bill No. ____ or House Bill No. 5642 is enacted into law.
