Beginning with the 2027-2028 school year, each public high school must offer at least one computer science course to enrolled pupils.

The computer science course must meet or exceed standards established by the state board of education and be listed in the school's course catalog.

Public high schools must make a good-faith effort to offer the course in an in-person setting, unless the school operates entirely virtually or in-person is not feasible, in which case virtual or distance-based options are permitted.

Computer science is defined as the study of computers and algorithmic processes, including principles, hardware and software designs, implementation, and societal impact, focusing on creating new technologies rather than solely using existing technology.
