Increases minimum damages for forcible eviction from $200 to $2,000, or $200 per day for ongoing conduct, whichever is greater, in addition to actual damages (up to 3 times actual damages).

Adds exemplary damages as a recoverable remedy for unlawful eviction when defendant violated a court order, caused interference to persist beyond 24 hours, engaged in repeated conduct, or other aggravating factors exist.

Permits courts to impose an additional civil fine equal to 10% of exemplary damages awarded in egregious cases, with funds deposited into the Michigan housing and community development fund.

Adds violation of section 5714(1) to the list of conduct constituting unlawful interference with a tenant's possessory interest.

Takes effect only if Senate Bill No. ____ or House Bill No. 5756 is enacted into law.
