Beginning September 30, 2027, the department must require all teacher preparation and alternative teaching programs to include instruction on dyslexia characteristics, secondary consequences, instructional adjustments, and multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) frameworks.

Programs preparing teachers for reading instruction, language arts, special education, or school psychologist licensure must additionally provide instruction in evidence-based interventions grounded in the science of reading and structured literacy principles.

Mathematics-focused teacher preparation programs must develop curricula in consultation with a professor specializing in mathematics.

Science-focused teacher preparation programs must develop curricula in consultation with a professor specializing in science.

The department may issue waivers for up to 2 years for programs not preparing reading, language arts, special education, or school psychology professionals to waive certain dyslexia-related requirements, with mandatory biennial reviews.
