Updates Michigan's Food Law to incorporate the 2017 Food Code (replacing 2009 version) and the 2019 National Shellfish Sanitation Program Guide (replacing 2009 version)

Adds "major food allergen" definition covering milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, wheat, peanuts, soybeans, and sesame, with requirements for allergen labeling on food products

Requires certified food protection managers at food service establishments and medium/high-risk retail food establishments, with a 1-year transition period for establishments newly subject to this requirement and a 2-year implementation deadline for section 2-102.12 of the food code

Modifies food code provisions to allow untreated wood planks (such as cedar) as cooking and food-contact surfaces, and establishes detailed requirements for handling and identification of molluscan shellfish

Updates definition of "food establishment" and related terms to clarify regulatory scope, and changes outdated statutory cross-references to federal food safety laws to reference effective dates of amendments rather than specific calendar dates
