Department of Education must develop or adopt resources supporting professional learning on cultural competency by June 1, 2027, covering diversity, cultural identity, historic contributions of specific racial and ethnic groups, and implicit bias training.

Beginning in the 2027-2028 school year, all educators and school personnel with student contact must receive cultural competency training using resources from subsection (1), which may be integrated into existing professional development requirements.

Resources must include information on historic contributions and perspectives of Asian American and Pacific Islander, Black, Indigenous, Latine, Hispanic, Jewish American, Arab American, North African, and Chaldean American people in Michigan and the United States.

Department may make available instructional materials on the listed ethnic and cultural groups' history to school districts, intermediate school districts, and public school academies in accordance with state social studies content standards.

Bill does not take effect unless a companion bill (Senate Bill or House Bill request no. 04018'23) is enacted into law.
