Summary of Senate Bill 73

• Amends the Freedom of Information Act (1976 PA 442) to exempt from public disclosure the identity of parties proceeding anonymously in civil actions alleging sexual misconduct.

• Allows parties claiming to be victims of sexual misconduct to proceed anonymously in civil cases and requires law enforcement agencies to retain written notification of anonymity requests in their files.

• Defines "sexual misconduct" to include conduct described in specific Michigan Penal Code sections (750.90, 750.136, 750.145a, 750.145b, 750.145c, 750.520b, 750.520c, 750.520d, 750.520e, 750.520g) regardless of whether a criminal conviction resulted.

• Takes immediate effect upon enactment (July 12, 2023).
