Increases state benefit for public safety officers killed or permanently and totally disabled in the line of duty from $25,000 to $50,000 for all claims paid on or after October 1, 2024.

Benefit payment priority: surviving spouse receives payment; if no spouse, dependents receive payment; if no dependents, payment goes to the officer's estate or entity providing care for permanently and totally disabled officers.

Benefit is paid in addition to any other benefits the beneficiary receives due to the officer's death or disability.

Applies retroactively to all applications pending before the commission on or after October 1, 2024.

Takes immediate effect upon approval on October 3, 2024.
