Department of Human Services shall cover ultrasound procedures and fetal nonstress tests performed remotely through telemedicine when patients are in their residence or other off-site locations under the medical assistance program.

Department must amend rules for fee-for-service and managed care plans to allow reimbursement for remote ultrasound and fetal nonstress tests using established CPT codes when the same standard of care is met.

Remote ultrasounds are reimbursable only when providers use digital technology that securely transmits patient health data to a remote provider and is compliant with HIPAA and FDA-approved.

Remote fetal nonstress tests are reimbursable only when they include HIPAA and FDA-compliant technology with FDA-cleared devices that monitor fetal heart rate, maternal heart rate, or uterine activity.

Department shall adopt and publish guidelines to implement the telemedicine coverage and reimbursement requirements.
