Prohibits the Michigan Department from providing Medicaid coverage for brand name drugs when an equivalent generic drug exists

Allows brand name drug coverage only when a prescriber handwrites "dispense as written" or "d.a.w." on the prescription

Permits brand name prescriptions when using preprinted prescription blanks with a generic substitution statement, if the prescriber handwrites "d.a.w." initials in the designated space

Allows brand name coverage for non-written prescriptions (oral/electronic) when the prescriber expressly indicates the prescription should be dispensed as communicated

Adds Section 109z to the Social Welfare Act governing medical assistance program drug coverage requirements
