Expands parental notification requirements before students can be enrolled in classes discussing family planning, reproductive health, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, sexual attraction, romantic or intimate relationships, or consent

Requires parents/guardians to be notified in advance of class content, given opportunity to review materials, and informed of their right to have their child excused from such classes

Allows students to be excused without penalty or loss of academic credit from sex education classes upon written request from the student or parent/legal guardian

Updates terminology throughout the statute, replacing "sexually transmitted disease" with "sexually transmitted infections" and other minor language modernizations

Maintains existing requirements that sex education classes be elective, stress abstinence as responsible and effective, and prohibit distribution of family planning drugs or devices on school property
