MI HB5474

Requires the Michigan Department of Corrections to collect driver's license or state ID application documents and photographs from prisoners at least 60 days before their scheduled release on parole or discharge, then submit these materials to the Secretary of State.

Mandates the department provide any operator's license or official state personal identification card received from the Secretary of State to the individual upon release.

Expands department responsibilities from "reasonably allowing" prisoners to obtain identification documents to actively "assisting" them in the process before release.

Requires the department to grant the Secretary of State electronic access to prisoner information for identity verification purposes for license and ID applications.

This bill is contingent on the enactment of HB 5477 and HB 5475 from the 103rd Legislature to take effect.
