Child care centers may now use certified lead-free fixtures with PEX piping or central reverse osmosis systems as alternatives to filtered bottle-filling stations and filtered faucets for providing drinking water

Centers using certified lead-free fixtures or other systems meeting NSF/ANSI standards 53 and 42 that provide water with lead concentration of 5 parts per billion or less are exempt from the biennial water sampling and testing requirements

The deadline for developing drinking water management plans is set at January 14, 2025, and the deadline for posting signage and ensuring filtered/safe water sources is October 14, 2025

The legislature must annually appropriate sufficient funds to the Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential to administer these requirements, and child care centers are not required to comply unless funding is appropriated
