Michigan Department of Natural Resources may contract with sportsmen's organizations to annually auction up to 5 "Pure Michigan hunt" licenses to the highest bidders, open to any individual.

Pure Michigan hunt licenses include elk, bear, spring and fall turkey, antlerless deer hunting licenses, and first pick at a managed waterfowl hunt area.

Sportsmen's organizations conducting the auctions may retain 7.5% of proceeds, with the remainder deposited into the state's game and fish protection account.

Eligible sportsmen's organizations must be 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(4) nonprofits organized for conservation of natural resources and preservation or advancement of hunting, fishing, or outdoor recreation.
