Requires the Michigan Department of Education to assign letter grades (A, B, C, D, or F) to each public school beginning with the 2025-2026 school year and annually thereafter

Schools will be graded on pupil proficiency in mathematics and English language arts based on the percentage of students achieving proficiency on state assessments

Grading criteria includes student growth measurements in math and English language arts, tracking whether students maintain proficiency or demonstrate sufficient growth to reach proficiency within 3 years

English language learner progress toward English proficiency must be assessed as required under the federal Every Student Succeeds Act

High school graduation rates and academic performance compared to schools serving similar demographic populations will also factor into the letter grade assignments
