Allows courts to sentence defendants to probation for major controlled substance offenses involving 1,000 grams or more, but only if the substance is not heroin, fentanyl, carfentanil, or any derivative of these drugs

Currently, major controlled substance offenses are among the crimes for which probation is prohibited; this bill creates an exception for certain drug types

Updates terminology throughout the section, changing "person" to "individual" and "his or her" to "the defendant's"

Takes effect 90 days after enactment, contingent on Senate Bill No. 430 of the 103rd Legislature also being enacted into law
