Movie theaters with 8 or more screens must provide open captioning for at least 2 screenings per week for each film shown 5 or more times weekly, for a minimum of 3 weeks after the film's premiere at that location.

After the initial 3-week period, theaters must provide at least 1 open-captioned screening per week on a weekday evening or weekend, plus additional screenings upon request.

Theaters must advertise open-captioned showtimes the same way as regular showtimes and post public notices explaining how patrons can request captioned screenings.

The Attorney General's office oversees enforcement, including establishing a consumer complaint process and investigating alleged violations; disability discrimination complaints are referred to the Department of Civil Rights.

Willful cancellation of scheduled open-captioned screenings constitutes a violation, though cancellations due to equipment failure, weather, or other circumstances beyond the theater's control are exempt.
