Certified nurse practitioners and occupational therapists are added to the list of healthcare professionals authorized to certify disability for obtaining disability parking placards, special registration plates, and free parking stickers in Michigan.

Previously, only physicians, physician assistants, physical therapists, and optometrists (for blindness only) could make disability determinations for parking privileges.

Qualifying disabilities include blindness, inability to walk more than 200 feet without rest, inability to use legs/feet, severe lung disease, cardiovascular conditions rated 3-4 on the New York Heart Association scale, and severe arthritic, neurological, or orthopedic conditions.

The bill consolidates the definition of "disabled person" into a single section (257.19a) rather than repeating it across multiple code sections.
