Bruce Patterson served in the Michigan House of Representatives (1999-2002) representing the Twenty-first District and the Michigan Senate (2003-2010) representing the Seventh District, after previously serving as a Wayne County Commissioner (1995-1998)

Patterson earned his bachelor's degree and juris doctor from Wayne State University and worked over 20 years as an attorney, eventually becoming president of McCabe, Middleton & Patterson, P.C.

In the Legislature, Patterson led the successful 2002 ballot proposal authorizing up to $1 billion in state bonds for local water pollution control projects and championed legislation protecting consumers from utility shut-offs and providing tax credits for hybrid vehicle research

Patterson held leadership positions including Majority Floor Leader in the House and chaired committees on House Oversight and Operations, House Redistricting and Elections, and Senate Energy Policy, Public Utilities, and Technology

The resolution was offered by Senators Brinks and Nesbitt to honor Patterson's memory and transmit copies to his family, recognizing his legacy of consumer protection, government transparency, and environmental stewardship
