Highlights that over 180 nonindigenous aquatic species are already established in the Great Lakes basin, displacing native species and costing millions of dollars annually for control efforts

Notes Michigan has over 900,000 registered boaters and more than 11,000 inland lakes and 76,000 miles of rivers and streams affected by aquatic invasive species

Emphasizes the importance of preventing the introduction and spread of invasive species through various pathways including ballast water, canals, organisms in trade, and recreational boating and fishing

Encourages collaboration between government, businesses, environmental groups, citizens, and other Great Lakes states and provinces to combat aquatic invasive species
