Honors African-American historical figures and "hidden figures" who contributed to American ingenuity and innovation throughout the nation's history

Acknowledges the injustices African-Americans have endured and commends the community's continuous pursuit of overcoming those injustices

Notes that Black History Month has been officially recognized by every U.S. President since Gerald R. Ford first adopted it in 1976

Joins other organizations throughout Michigan and the country to raise awareness about hardships endured, celebrate milestones achieved, and continue pursuit of equality and justice
