Classified state employees are expected to serve as nonpartisan resources to all decision makers and provide timely, professional assistance to executive and legislative branches regarding service and finance systems.

Employers are prohibited from discharging, disciplining, threatening, or penalizing employees for reporting violations of federal or state law or rule to an employer or governmental body.

Employers are prohibited from retaliating against employees who refuse orders to perform actions that violate state or federal law, provided the employee informs the employer of the legal violation.

Health care employees are protected from retaliation for reporting good faith concerns that quality of health care services violate standards established by federal or state law or recognized national clinical or ethical standards.

Classified state employees are protected for communicating information they believe to be truthful and accurate relating to state services and financing to legislators, the legislative auditor, or constitutional officers.
