Levy proceeds must fund specific purposes including peace officer liaison services, drug abuse prevention programs, gang resistance education, school security, crime prevention, and licensed mental health and counseling staff.

Districts must initially attempt to contract for peace officer and sheriff services through local police or county sheriff departments, or may contract with other police/sheriff departments within school district boundaries.

Intermediate school districts may include safe schools activity costs authorized under the levy, not to exceed $10 times the adjusted marginal cost pupil units of member districts, with revenue transferred to the intermediate district.
