Chapter 190 – H.F. No. 2856 Summary

• Increases minimum experience requirement for real estate broker's license from 2 years to 3 years of actual experience within the previous 5-year period, effective July 1, 2011

• Requires all real estate salespersons and brokers to complete 30 hours of continuing education per 24-month license period, with at least 15 hours completed in the first 12 months

• Mandates at least 1 hour of training per license period on agency representation and disclosure laws, and at least 1 hour on state and federal fair housing laws and other antidiscrimination statutes

• Requires 3.75 or 7.5 hours of commissioner-approved module training annually within the 30-hour continuing education requirement, with completion verified by written test

• Prohibits commissioner approval of courses completable at home without instructor supervision, except accredited courses using interactive technology or the Internet; courses in motivation, salesmanship, psychology, or time management are not approvable
