Amends Minnesota Statutes 2008, section 125A.69, subdivision 1 to establish trial placement procedures for the Minnesota State Academies.

Parents of children who meet disability criteria (deaf, hard-of-hearing, blind, visually impaired, or multiply disabled) may apply to place their child in the Minnesota State Academies, with staff determining appropriateness.

Trial placements last between 60 and 90 calendar days, during which the Minnesota State Academies serves as the responsible school district and assumes all due process obligations while the resident district remains responsible for transportation.

An individualized education program team meeting must occur before the trial placement concludes to determine whether to continue placement at the academies or transition to another placement; if agreement cannot be reached, the child reverts to the previous placement.

Effective for the 2010-2011 school year and later.
