Amends Minnesota Statutes 2008, section 299F.035 to authorize fire departments to access criminal history data on job applicants and current employees.

Requires the superintendent of the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, in consultation with the state fire marshal, to develop and implement a plan for fire department access to criminal history data with security procedures to prevent unauthorized use or disclosure.

Permits fire departments to use criminal history data in assessing job applicants or employees only if the data are directly related to the position of employment sought or currently held.

Requires fire departments to use uniform access procedures for all applicants or employees, and limits requests for criminal history data on current employees to once per year.

Fire departments must submit fingerprint requests to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and obtain state and federal criminal history reports for a nominal fee.
