Commissioner of education must notify parents, guardians, or legal custodians within 10 days of receiving a report of alleged maltreatment in a school facility, either orally or in writing, whether the commissioner is assessing or investigating the report.

For school facilities, the commissioner of education is not required to notify all parents of children in the facility but may provide written notification to the parent or guardian of any student alleged to have been maltreated within 10 days after the investigation is completed.

The commissioner of education may notify parents or guardians of any student involved as a witness to alleged maltreatment in a school facility.

Oral reports of child maltreatment must be made immediately by telephone or otherwise and followed within 72 hours (excluding weekends and holidays) by a written report to the appropriate agency.

Local welfare agencies must determine whether to accept a report for assessment or investigation within 24 hours of receiving it.
