County and regional jail boards may authorize sheriffs or regional jail superintendents to enter into agreements to house offenders from other states.

Extradition requirements under Minnesota chapter 629 do not apply to out-of-state offenders accepted under these agreements.

Sheriffs or regional jail superintendents may return out-of-state offenders to their state of origin upon request from the appropriate authority in that state.

Effective date is the day following final enactment.
