Dental laboratories operating in Minnesota must register with the Board of Dentistry every two years and receive a unique registration number.

All dental laboratory work must be based on a written prescription from a licensed dentist, which may be handwritten, faxed, or sent electronically with an electronic signature.

Dental laboratories must disclose to the dentist within seven days of written request the complete material content of prescribed restorations and include this information in the patient record.

Licensed dentists must use only dental laboratories registered with Minnesota that display a state registration number for any dental laboratory work performed outside a licensed dentist's office.

Dental technicians at laboratories renewing registration must complete eight hours of continuing education biennially, covering laboratory techniques, materials, equipment, oral health, infection control, and safety.
