HF3848 Summary

• Requires wireless telecommunications service providers to send a text message or voice alert to customers when aggregate usage reaches within five percent of the customer's voice, text, or data limit established in their contract.

• Mandates providers send an additional alert with each subsequent use of the service after the contract limit has been reached.

• Alert messages must inform customers that usage is approaching or has exceeded the contract limit and that overage charges will apply at the higher rate specified in the contract.

• Creates new Minnesota Statutes section 325F.697 to establish requirements for wireless telephone services and limit alerts.

• Effective date is January 1, 2011.
