Amends Minnesota Statutes 2008, section 609.2231 by adding a new subdivision creating a gross misdemeanor offense for assaulting a utility employee or contractor.

A person is guilty of gross misdemeanor who assaults an employee or contractor of a utility while engaged in performance of their duties and inflicts demonstrable bodily harm.

The assault must be committed with knowledge that the victim is a utility employee or contractor performing employment or contractual duties.

"Utility" has the meaning given in section 609.594, subdivision 1, clause (3).

Effective August 1, 2009, and applies to offenses committed on or after that date.
