School districts must offer at least two academic years of high school level world languages courses through the 2014-2015 school year, increasing to at least three academic years starting in the 2015-2016 school year.

World languages programs must acknowledge and reinforce language proficiency and cultural awareness of non-English language speakers and encourage student proficiency in multiple languages.

World languages programs must include indigenous American Indian languages and cultures alongside other world languages and cultures.

The Department of Education shall consult with postsecondary institutions to develop professional development opportunities for world languages teachers and staff.

School districts and charter schools must align local world languages academic standards and benchmarks with state requirements and establish periodic review cycles for the standards.
