School districts and charter schools must report annually by June 30 to the commissioner about financial and property losses involving theft (excluding minimal losses) that occurred during the preceding school year using an electronic format.

Reports must include a description of the loss, location and time of the theft, circumstances under which it occurred, cost to the school, and actions taken by school administration in response.

Schools may report aggregate data rather than individual incidents.

The commissioner shall compile reported information and submit it annually to the commissioner of public safety and the legislature, and include it on school performance report cards.

The requirement is effective for the 2009-2010 school year and all subsequent years.
