Independent School District No. 858, St. Charles is eligible for declining pupil unit aid of up to $242,000 per year for fiscal years 2010 and 2011 to account for students lost due to the April 2009 fire

The aid amount equals the lesser of $242,000 or $5,124 multiplied by the number of adjusted pupil units lost, with the district required to document student losses to the commissioner of education

If declining pupil unit aid paid to the school district is less than $242,000 per year, the difference is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner of revenue for aid to the City of St. Charles

Aid to the city is paid according to Minnesota Statutes section 477A.015 and is designated to help cover revenue losses from the April 2009 fire that closed the city's largest employer

The provision becomes effective the day following final enactment
