School boards may offer a continuing contract to probationary teachers at any time before completing the three-year probationary period, upon recommendation of the superintendent and school principal.

The decision to offer a continuing contract must be based on results from the evaluation process established for probationary teachers.

Probationary teachers in their first three years of consecutive employment in a single district must complete at least 60 days of teaching service annually, excluding parent-teacher conferences, workshops, staff development, and absences.

Amendment applies to both general school districts (Minnesota Statutes 122A.40) and schools in first-class cities (Minnesota Statutes 122A.41).

Teachers whose service is interrupted for active military service may still be considered to have consecutive teaching experience if they resume teaching consistent with federal reemployment timelines.
