Road authorities may issue annual permits authorizing single-unit vehicles to haul milk at weights exceeding standard limitations in sections 169.823 and 169.824 by up to 10 percent, with a $60 annual permit fee.

Permits may only be issued before August 1, 2012, establishing a sunset date for the program.

Vehicles operating under milk hauling permits are subject to seasonal load restrictions, bridge load limits, and cannot operate on interstate highways or exceed manufacturer's gross vehicle weight ratings.

Vehicles may not take advantage of seasonal weight increases otherwise authorized under state law.

The bill amends Minnesota Statutes section 169.86 to add special milk hauling vehicles as a category eligible for $60 annual overweight permits.
