School boards may renew an expiring referendum without a voter election if the per pupil amount remains the same as the amount expiring.

The renewed referendum term cannot exceed the length of the initial term that was approved by voters.

School boards must adopt a written resolution authorizing the renewal after holding a public meeting where testimony on the proposed renewal is allowed.

Amends Minnesota Statutes 2008, section 126C.17 by adding subdivision 9a.

Effective date is July 1, 2010.
